Business Situation
A major device manufacturer had experienced numerous operational issues: compliance risks, low production yields, inconsistent product supply and missed customer service targets. A recent experiences with their automated Electronic Batch Record (EBR) had been only partly successful. Based on past performance the cost to deploy the EBR system was untenable. A robust set of innovated products was poised to enter the market. A very real potential existed that the clients operational capacities would be a competitive disadvantage and reduce the overall value of the companies products.

Program Description
The client devised a two part strategy to develop improved efficiencies within their multiple existing global facilities and to invest in new construction of new facilities in tax friendly locations. Each program proposed operational targets that were inconceivable with current processes or systems. The new facilities were deemed to be the companies commitment to "The Factory of the Future."

Endeavor Involvement
Endeavor was retained to provide a series of strategy assessments and recommendations. The initial deliverable was to provide a mapping of capabilities required to technology solutions and to prioritize a roadmap of near and long term deployments. Included in the recommendations was a innovative deployment strategy that would reduce overall costs by 60% and reduce the deployment time from years to months.

Business Benefit
Overall production capabilities within existing plants have improved substantially in large part due to improved IT systems support. Recent FDA audits have reported major improvements in compliance adherence. Customer service levels have been consistently met for last 12 months. Deployment of new systems are meeting all financial goals and timelines. Factory of the Future is on plan. The IT systems strategy has been instrumental in creating competitive advantage capabilities.
